Learning games LUCUS
Muld
A learning game for lower-secondary pupils. It gives them a fun and instructive look at sustainable farming.
What
Muld is a classroom learning game that teaches pupils about farming and life as a farmer in an intuitive and entertaining way. Pupils compete to run the most successful farm. They make important decisions about finances, family life, animal welfare and the environment – and have to prove their knowledge of farming to secure EU subsidies and bank loans.
Muld is designed as a digital board game: the board is shown on the classroom smartboard, and each pupil runs their own farm from their own device.

Why
Farming has historically been Denmark’s most important industry. In recent years a large part of the population has moved further from the countryside and into the cities, where milk and eggs are something that comes from the supermarket shelf. Muld is an entertaining learning game that teaches pupils, simply and clearly, where their food comes from.
Muld is built on the common cross-curricular focus areas and tailored to a course on farming. By concentrating on the key subject terms and learning goals, it can be the starting point for a lively debate about sustainable agriculture.
How
Muld is designed to look like the games pupils play every day, which gives them an easy way in. It takes just five minutes of tutorial before the game can start.
To start a game, the teacher connects their device to the smartboard and tailors the session: how many seasons the game should last, how many minutes each season takes, and how much money each farm starts with. Once all pupils have joined, the teacher starts the game.
