The app contains methods for determining water quality from the animal life collected in lakes. By identifying the animal species and choosing the waterbugs in the app, students are able to evaluate the ecological water quality. Waterbugs includes detailed descriptions and illustrations of the most common waterbugs in Danish lakes.

The app is tailored for students to document their analysis results as customisable reports, which can be sent and printed.

The scientific method used in Waterbugs is the same one Danish municipalities use to evaluate water quality. With the app, students demonstrate the practical application of biology, involving both laboratory and field work – and analyse and document their findings in an easily comprehensible and concise way.

Waterbugs was funded by and developed in cooperation with Kingo Consult ApS, to work towards more interesting education in natural science.
